‘Dwelas’ is an application inspired by the power of the community to combat and offer solutions to increasing levels of insecurity, accidents, and emergencies around you. The name is coined from the word ‘Dwell’, which means to live in a particular space or region.
Dwelas provides real-time updates about events in your vicinity that may pose a threat or emergency. By receiving these updates, you can take action to avoid or intervene in the situation effectively.

I served as the Lead Product Designer for this project, working alongside two Visual Designers, Dipo Apelehin and Christopher Emoghor.
As the primary point of contact with the client, I handled all communication, including gathering the necessary data and information about the project and translating them into requirements and deliverables.
I was responsible for UX research and the majority of high-fidelity UI design. Additionally, I established the design direction and delegated tasks to both Chris and Dipo, overseeing the creation of UI elements, components, and high-fidelity designs for some of the screens.
The timeline for this project is 8 weeks.

Nigeria has been experiencing a significant increase in insecurity, resulting in citizens' growing concern about their safety. Law enforcement agencies have limited capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, making it necessary for individuals to take measures to protect themselves and seek assistance in vulnerable situations. There have also been cases where individuals have been unlawfully stopped by people claiming to be law enforcement officers, highlighting the need for people to know how to respond in such situations.
Dwelas is a platform designed to empower people in Nigeria to call for help in times of distress and act as whistleblowers when they notice brewing troubles or unrest in their area. The platform aims to prevent local areas from turning into high crime rate and danger zones, like Gotham City. Dwelas allows people to take proactive measures to keep their communities safe by reporting incidents, raising awareness, and checking on the safety of friends. The app includes features such as registering an account, viewing an incident, interacting with posts concerning an incident, reporting an incident, and creating an emergency alert.
We utilized the User Experience Design Process (UED) to create a product that meets the highest standards and practices, with the user at the centre. The UED process is composed of 5 stages that are well-coordinated to ensure a thorough understanding of the problem we aim to solve. This includes addressing the root cause of the problem rather than just treating the symptoms, conducting research to understand user needs and comparing them with existing market competition, brainstorming to identify effective solutions, and ultimately creating a product that is tailored to the user's preferences and needs.
